Memoir of Childhood Reminiscence: A Modern Residential House

A Unique Design by Iftekhar Abdullah

The Sabita Residence in New South Wales, Australia, is a stunning architectural masterpiece that captures the essence of the owner's childhood memories.

The Sabita Residence, located in Kogarah, New South Wales, stands out with its distinct architectonic features and modern presence. Designed by Iftekhar Abdullah, this two-story residential house with a basement is a true memoir of the owner's childhood. The design takes inspiration from nostalgic memories such as fishing, kite flying, and folk music, which are reinterpreted as sculptures in terracotta.

What sets the Sabita Residence apart is its unique use of terracotta cladding to tell stories through the building itself. The clay terracotta cladding adorns the exterior walls, creating a visual representation of the owner's heritage and reminiscence of untamed childhood moments. The sculptural adornment at the front corner of the entry captures the essence of the owner's childhood memories, making the Sabita Residence a truly personal and unique design.

The design of the Sabita Residence is not only visually striking but also functional. The owner's desire for a comfortable family home with plenty of sunshine, stunning views, and entertainment options has been fulfilled. The ground floor features guest accommodation, a kitchen, dining and living area, and an open plan design that combines formal and family living spaces. The first floor houses four bedrooms, two ensuites, a bathroom, and a sitting area with an adjoining balcony that provides remarkable views and ample sunlight. The roof area offers two outdoor terrace areas surrounded by dense garden planters, creating a serene and relaxing space.

The Sabita Residence was designed in 2016 and completed in 2019. The location, situated in Kogarah, Sydney, Australia, offers stunning views of the city skyline and is in close proximity to the waterfront and Scarborough Reserve Park. The design takes full advantage of the location, with balconies and grand openings strategically positioned to enjoy the clear city views and allow for natural lighting and ventilation. The stepped roof design follows the sloped terrain, resulting in green terraces that blend seamlessly with the surroundings.

Iftekhar Abdullah, the principal architect, led a team of talented individuals who contributed to the realization of this unique design. Tanu Murang served as the associate architect, Shafiq Rahman as the 3D artist, Asaduzzaman Rassel as the interior designer, S. Mamun Roshid as the terracotta artist, Youssef Taouk as the QCM builder, and Rumana Rahman as a graduate of architecture.

The Sabita Residence has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics. The Sabita Residence stands as a testament to the power of design to create a better world.
